Have you ever heard of the clown of all dog breeds? That’s the French Bulldog. Because of their fun and loving traits, people grew fond of having Frenchies as companion dogs. French Bulldogs are known for their large bat ears and their flat snout. These physical characteristics matched with its charming and alert self make it so irresistible.

There are plenty of things to consider when choosing to adopt a French Bulldog: your lifestyle, your location, and your dedication to shower your Frenchie with love and affection. French Bulldogs love to pay but trust that they are heavy sleepers as well. Continue reading to know more about proper care, exercise, and where to get the best dog bed for French Bulldogs.

Proper Care

The first thing to consider when adopting a French Bulldog is your location and living conditions. This breed is among many flat-faced dogs. This makes them prone to breathing problems, especially in hot and humid weather. When you have a Frenchie, remember not bringing them to you on flights or traveling them via air. Many breeds like French Bulldogs have died while on the flight.

Second, French Bulldogs cannot swim! We repeat. They cannot swim. Keep them away from pools, spas, lakes, or any other body of water. Because of their front-heavy structure and tiny legs, this makes swimming almost very impossible.

Grooming your Frenchie

French Bulldogs are minimal shedders with a very short coat. Weekly brushing should be done to eliminate loose hair, promote new hair growth, and distribute the natural oils that keep its hair shiny and healthy. Depending on how dirty your Frenchie gets, giving baths vary. If your Frenchie is just kept indoors and can be kept clean, a once-a-month bath will do. You may need to bathe your French Bulldog once a week or every two weeks on certain occasions.

As you may have noticed, Frenchies have very dense and visible facial folds. If not given any attention, these will accumulate dirt that can be home to many bacteria. Always wipe your Frenchie’s face clean to ensure that you don’t miss anything and don’t let any bacteria or infection develop.

Training and Excercise

At an early age, start socializing your Frenchie with other dogs and other people. French Bulldogs are very clingy and affectionate puppers but can become very territorial. Remember to take them on walks to get their needed exercise but remember that they do not do well in the heat. This means that too much training, especially in scorching weather conditions, can become very dangerous. When going for a walk or simply playtime, always make sure to have clean water for your Frenchie.

Feeding and Nutrition

The right quality and amount of dog food are vital elements of having a healthy dog. Remember to give them puppy food as long as necessary, which is about 12-14 months, and switch to adult dog food afterward. Senile dogs may require food adjustment depending on their condition. When training your French Bulldog, it is essential to stimulate them with treats. However, note that this breed is prone to weight gain and obesity. Treats are for training and occasionally snacking only and are not to be part of daily meals.

Rest and Sleep

Frenchies love to sleep. Compared to most dogs, they are more prone to snoring. A French Bulldog, however affectionate, also needs some alone time and privacy. Luckily, Ambient Lounge made dog beds for French Bulldogs. After a long day of being goofy and chasing after you, your dog would want to burrow in a soft and cozy pet bed that he/she can call his own.

There are many reasons why regular pet beds simply won’t do for Frenchies. For instance, this dog breed drools by a lot. A typical dog bed made out of cloth for Frenchies means a soaked bed that will eventually start to stink, and you always have to clean.

Another thing is, this breed does not do well in both cold and hot weather. Our luxury pet beds come with a soft faux fur cover that won’t do the trick for summer days; you can always match it with our Thermo-cool dog mats or our ThermoQuilt Covers. Ambient Lounge Luxury dog beds come in a variety of colors and sizes for you to choose from. It is waterproof to make sure that excessive drooling will not be a problem.

As much as you want your Frenchie to be well-behaved, there will come a time when they want to chew on everything and anything. When this happens, your luxury pet bed will be an exemption! We know how our furry friends are, and we’ve designed this dog bed to fit every need. This is why it is our pride and joy to say that our pet beds are chew-proof! If that is not enough to convince you how much you need Ambient Lounge pet beds in your and your dog’s life, we don’t know what will. It’s perfect!
