World Cup match report - Fearless Socceroo Heartbreak as we outplay the Dutch... but still lose

Our Resident football-mad Ambient Lounge Twin Couch Expert says:

Score: Australia 2, Netherlands 3.

Highlights: Tim Cahill's amazing volley which was "Goal of the World Cup" (boom!) Socceroos first half domination of world class opposition. Aussie sprit.

Lowlights: Socceroos missing a clear-cut opportunity to go 3-2 up (the Dutch wouldnt have missed that) .,... one minute later conceding a goal with a goalkeeper error (ouch).

Ex Socceroo Robbie Slater said it all when he bluntly claimed "you can't be disappointed with what we saw .. .the best game of the tournament, the best goal of the tournament so far (stand up again Timmy Cahill) and the ways the boys played, particularly in the first half was absolutely incredible".

Even the overly confident (or some would say downright cocky/arrogant) Luis Van Gaal admitted through gritted teeth his team were outplayed in the first half. arjen Robben marvelled at Cahill's goal and credited the Aussies. The dutch were not just surprised by the attacking flair of the Aussies, but they were sat on their butt by the classy Aussie execution.

However, ultimately a few defensive errors and the Dutch converting their only few chances saw the Aussies go down 2-3 ...cruelly... our Ambient Lounge team were almost crying on our bean bags when that last goal slipped clumsily past Matt Ryan... but we (like the entire nation) were proud of the boys and our Aussie spirit. The football was a class never seen before by an Australian Socceroos team.
